Bakas

Bakas in the Filipino language means print, mark, trace, trail or vestige. This blog, then, records all those that left their marks or my impressions on anything under the sun :)

at Yakitori Dori in Baywalk

Our group went to Yakitori Dori tonight at Baywalk, Manila.
At Baywalk, it's the nearest restaurant to the US Embassy in Manila.

We took advantage of its Eat All You Can package. But this
package is for Filipino food only. With the Yakitori, one would
expect Japanese food. But it's not applicable for Eat All You Can :)
Anyway, it is still worth it. And the bands that performed tonight
are really great.

change of leadership

Our agency changed leadership today.

The new head said that he and our previous boss went from
way, way back. In fact, they have some 30 years of relationship. He
said that he admired our former boss for being an intellectual – from
an intellectual communist, intellectual journalist then to an
intellectual bureaucrat.

Thirty years ago, he said that if you were not a communist,
then you didn't have a heart. How could one ignore the sufferings of
people oppressed?

But thirty years later, he said that if you were still a
communist, then you didn't have a brain. How could you think that a
godless ideology would be the answer to all of society's frustrations?

And he outlined the changes he aimed to do in our agency
within nine months.

It will be great to work with him again.

thousand visits

I haven't updated my blog for some time and I didn't notice
that my blog already had a thousand visits last week. It wasn't until
September last year that I posted on it regularly though I already had
a blog since October 2004.

I thank all my friends and acquaintances who continue to care
for my existence by reading my blog :)

H.O.P.E. and give life

When I was in college, my professor in Mass Communication
Ethics informed us that he was an organ donor and that we might
consider it, too.

I wanted to be an organ donor since then but did nothing about it.

But I'm already 33 years old, with one major operation just
last November, and some who are younger than me already died. In
short, one doesn't know when one's time will come, so one simply can't
dilly-dally about these things.

Today, I finally registered myself as an organ donor
(cadaver donor) with the Human Organ Preservation Effort (HOPE)
Philippines. This means that if I were to be declared brain dead (no
pun), my organs can be donated to patients with various types of
end-stage organ disease. This donation may include both kidneys, bone
marrow, long bones, corneas, the whole liver, pancreas, lungs and
heart.

For those who'd like to be organ donors, you may call HOPE
at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute at 924-3601 to 19.
Ask to be connected to local 2154 or HOPE.

Learn more about organ donation at HOPE's website:
