change of leadership

Our agency changed leadership today.

The new head said that he and our previous boss went from
way, way back. In fact, they have some 30 years of relationship. He
said that he admired our former boss for being an intellectual – from
an intellectual communist, intellectual journalist then to an
intellectual bureaucrat.

Thirty years ago, he said that if you were not a communist,
then you didn't have a heart. How could one ignore the sufferings of
people oppressed?

But thirty years later, he said that if you were still a
communist, then you didn't have a brain. How could you think that a
godless ideology would be the answer to all of society's frustrations?

And he outlined the changes he aimed to do in our agency
within nine months.

It will be great to work with him again.
