Bakas

Bakas in the Filipino language means print, mark, trace, trail or vestige. This blog, then, records all those that left their marks or my impressions on anything under the sun :)

==========
The Cultural Center of the Philippines unveils its 2008 season with an
ultimate patikim, a Pasinaya Festival extravaganza as an "open house'
salvo to celebrate February as National Arts Month. It is a veritable
smorgasbord of simultaneous, multiple mini-performances, booth exhibit
displays, and an end of the day cultural parade, all rolled into a
Sunday day of culture on February 3 and is guaranteed to take your
breath away.

The goal of the Pasinaya is "to showcase our best and encourage big
and small patrons for the arts," says Chris Millado, CCP associate
artistic director and festival director.

The best and the brightest of the nation's artists will be seen in the
performances of more than some 850 artists, led by CCP's nine (9)
resident artistic companies namely: The Philippine Bayanihan Dance
Company, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO), Ballet
Philippines, Philippine Madrigal Singers, Philippine Ballet Theater,
Tanghalang Pilipino, Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, UST Symphony
Orchestra and the National Music Competition for Young Artists
(NAMCYA). In addition, more than eight hundred (800) artists and their
groups are expected to perform among them Lisa Macuja and Ballet
Manila, Myra Beltran and the Wifi Contemporary Dance, UP Dance
Company, Halili Cruz School of Ballet, Teatro Tomasino, Roeder
Camañag, Chiang Kai Shek College Youth Choir, Philippine Navy Band,
Fides Cuyugan Asensio and the Music Theater Foundation, College of
DLSU Manila's Harlequin. This stellar artistic line-up stands tall on
its own high bar of performance.

The Pasinaya Festival has evolved into this full force extravaganza
with yearly increase of artist participation, audience membership and
financial support. What began as a modest artist showcase in 2005
which drew 3,000 guests attracted 10,000 people last year.

In 2008, there will be additional venues to accommodate more artists
and for the first time, an outdoor fair for visual arts.

The Pasinaya Festival promises no less than a cast of thousands to
unveil its 2008 season of performances in song, music, dance and
visual art on February 3.
